The EIC Transition program will follow the previous Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) Innovation Launchpad with the objective to bring infant research to mature pre-commercial status.
EIC transition program goes beyond the previous FET Innovation Launchpad as now it is required to envisage commercial possibilities of the project outcomes and possible ways to protect owners IP. This also turns into a significant increase in the EU funding available for EIC Transition projects, increasing from a lump-sum of 100,000 euro for the FET Innovation Launchpad to up to 2.5 million euro for a single EIC Transition project.
The EIC Transition program will count with an initial budget of €100M to support single participants or small consortia projects resulting from eligible Pathfinder, FET or ERC Proof of Concept projects and will follow “Pathfinder Open” and “Pathfinder Challenge” scheme.
EIC Transition Open will count with the majority of the initial budget and will have a not pre-defined topic, while EIC Transition Challenge will be focus to on the following two challenges:
- Medical technology and devices: from lab to patients
- Energy harvesting and storage technologies
Both programs, EIC Pathfinder and EIC Transition, will have their first deadline on 22nd September 2021 following by the evaluation process. The evaluation process for the Pathfinder Transition will be divided into two phases: First, there will be the usual peer-review by EIC expert evaluators and, if successful, second, a face-to-face interview with an EIC jury. The results of the first phase are expected to be communicated within 5-6 weeks, while the results of the interview will be released within 2-3 weeks. The first grant agreements are expected to be signed within 6 months from the call deadline.
